Look Out, Brother: Ken Butler III’s Younger Brother, Brett Butler
The success of Brett Butler ended on a hot day at the Darlington Raceway on lap 19 when he was forced out of his last race. Up to that point, Michael Waltrip and Rick Ware had both tried to develop this young driver. Brett was extremely popular with the crowds wherever he raced, but did not have the guts to become a truly remarkable driver.
Before that day at Darlington Raceway, Brett was signed by Rick Ware to drive for him in the new Truck Series program in 2009. Ware hoped that Brett would be successful in this series and develop the attitude that a NASCAR series driver must have. At first, Brett was successful winning at the Daytona International Speedway, but that would be his only success in the series. Soon Ware cut him loose.
Prior to that Waltrip tried to develop Brett Butler in the Hooter’s USAR Pro Cup Series. The crowds at the track loved this young man, but he did not have success on the track. Waltrip soon let Butler go.
It is doubtful that we will ever see this driver again, but time will only tell for sure. He was a crowd favorite wherever he went, but did not seem to be a truly remarkable driver.
